Small Arms and Light Weapons Control:In
2001 Voluntas began its work with Small Arms and Light Weapons amidst
accusations that some
countries in the Former Soviet Union were engaged in
illicit arms transactions. At our initiative and work, and in cooperation with
our partner Saferworld, our work led to the destruction of surplus weapons
stockpiles which potentially were sources of for this illegal trade. Funded by
the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office Voluntas organised regional
workshops about arms trade transparency, compliance with the UN Programme of
Action for the Arms Trade and Compliance with EU Code of Conduct for the Arms
Trade. Our efforts in these areas has been successful. We are currently engaged
in the active promotion of the International Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). We work
at the international, national and grassroots levels in this pursuit.
